SUSTAINABILITY

Q: Are AG products sustainable and environmentally friendly?

At AG we continuously research and use ingredients in our product line which are both sustainably sourced and environmentally friendly. We have, over the last 30 years, replaced many ingredients in our products as we have discovered better, milder or more natural alternatives. Many of the ingredients we currently use are naturally-derived and over 95% of the ingredients in our product line are either bio or photo degradable.

100% natural and sustainably sourced ingredients is our priority as we continuously strive to improve our products and introduce new ones to our line.

Q: Are AG product ingredients natural?

Many of the ingredients used in our products are naturally derived and/or organic. These include:

Coconut derived cleansing agents in our shampoos and conditioners.

USDA Certified Organic Coconut oil is used in our Smooth and Natural collections.

Our Smooth collection uses Ecocert Certified Organic

Argan Oil, which is produced and sourced from a women’s collective in Morocco.

Abyssinian oil from Africa.

We have natural and organic herbal or fruit extracts in almost all AG products.

Each product in our Texture collection contains AG’s exclusive Sea Complex, an infusion of three naturally texturizing and clarifying seaweed extracts plus hydrating seaberry oil.

AG’s Natural collection is formulated with 96-98% plant-based and naturally-derived ingredients. All products are vegan-friendly and silicone-free.

Q: Are AG product bottles recyclable and BPA-free?

Yes, AG bottles are BPA-free and recyclable. Please look on the bottom of the bottle for recycling symbol to determine how it can be recycled in your area.

Natural Collection

Q: How did you calculate the percentage of naturally derived ingredients in the natural category?

We research all ingredients and their source. We then only use ingredients that are natural or naturally sourced. We look at the total amount of ingredients in the formulation including water and ensure that there is a minimum of 96% (more in most products) of natural or naturally derived ingredients.

Balance, Boost and Rosehip Balm are each formulated with well over 98% naturally-derived ingredients. Less than 2% of the formulation is formulated with naturally-derived ingredients that may contain trace amounts of synthetic material such as Triethyl Citrate, an essential oil solvent which stabilizes fragrance and is only partially naturally-derived.

Remedy is formulated with over 98% naturally-derived ingredients. Less than 2% of the ingredients are made up of a food-grade preservative (Sodium Benzoate) and fragrance (parfum). Sodium Benzoate is technically not considered naturally-derived, but is allowed to be used in organic or natural products by most certification organizations. Fragrance (parfum) is used to minimize the strong fragrance of apple cider vinegar. It is a blend of primarily natural ingredients in combination with man-made fragrances which are safe for consumer use.

Dry Lift is over 96% naturally-derived and it includes food-grade preservative (Sodium Benzoate), a synthetic polymer (Octylacrylamide/Acrylates/Butylaminoethyl Methacrylate Copolymer), which is film-forming and creates hold, and Propylene Carbonate, which is a humectant.

Cloud is formulated with over 98% naturally-derived ingredients. Less than 2% of the ingredients are made up of a food-grade preservative (Sodium Benzoate) and PVP, a polymer that gives lightweight hold.

Glow is formulated with over 97% naturally-derived ingredients. Less than 2% is comprised of naturally-derived ingredients that may contain trace amounts of synthetic material such as Triethyl Citrate, an essential oil solvent which stabilizes fragrance and is only partially naturally-derived and PPG-3 Benzyl Ether Myristate, a shine-enhancing emollient.

Coco is formulated with over 98% naturally-derived ingredients. Less than 2% is comprised of naturally-derived ingredients that may contain trace amounts of synthetic material such as Triethyl Citrate, an essential oil solvent which stabilizes fragrance and is only partially naturally-derived and Phenylpropanol, a preservative derived from cinnamon leaves.

Bloom is formulated with over 98% naturally-derived ingredients. Less than 2% is comprised of naturally-derived ingredients that may contain trace amounts of synthetic material such as Phenylpropanol, a preservative derived from cinnamon leaves and Polyquaternium-10 which provides anti-static and moisturizing properties.

Q: What preservatives are in the Natural category?

We use a natural preservative in the Natural category (Caprylyl Glycol). However, this preservative is not effective in all products. In the case of Remedy and Dry Lift we use an FDA approved preservative (Sodium Benzoate) that is approved for food use as well as by natural cosmetic products. This preservative is permitted by most organic or natural certification organizations, such as Ecocert.

Q: Are the Natural products beneficial for colour-treated hair?

Absolutely! Not only are the Natural line of products gentle, but the low pH of Apple Cider Vinegar (a key ingredient in Balance, Boost, Remedy and Rosehip Balm) ensures that the cuticle stays closed to help lock in colour.

Q: Are the products in the Natural category biodegradable?

Yes, all AG Hair products are biodegradable.

Inside the bottle

Q: Is it true that salt (sodium chloride) can be found as a thickener in many shampoos?

Not just many, but most shampoos contain table salt, or sodium chloride, used as a cheap thickening agent. Salt dries out your hair and scalp in the same way that swimming in the ocean does and is therefore not a desirable ingredient. All AG shampoos are manufactured without adding salt as a thickening agent. We simply use less water and a higher concentration of ingredients that are beneficial to your hair, and provide you with instantly discernable results.

Q: Are all AG products gluten-free?

Yes, AG products are completely gluten-free. Having said this, we strongly suggest that individuals diagnosed with Celiac Disease or who have any concerns whatsoever to consult with their physician prior to using any cosmetic product.

You may notice some of our products contain ingredients such as wheat and oat protein. Through a process called hydrolysis, we extract the amino acids from these proteins. Once they have been extracted, based on FDA and International standards, they are considered gluten-free.

For further information, we have included a link to the Mayo Clinic, which has researched the issue of gluten in cosmetics and sunscreens answering the question “I have celiac disease. Do I need to be concerned about gluten in hair and sunscreen products?” The answer “No. Gluten-containing skin care products and cosmetics aren’t a problem unless you accidentally swallow them“.

Q: Do you use parabens in your products?

AG Hair does not use parabens in our products (parabens are used as preserving agents and have been shown to be a concern to human health). At AG we use gentle cosmetic grade preservatives with a worldwide safety approval.

Q: What is PABA and why does AG choose not to use it?

PABA, or para-aminobenzoic acid, was one of the first sunblocks that became widely available for purchase in the 1970’s. PABA has been found to be an irritant to the skin and as a precaution, AG Hair has chosen to use alternative, Cinnamidopropyltrimonium Chloride, which is biodegradable.

Q: What is DEA and why does AG choose not to use it?

DEA is a foaming agent used in shampoos and has been placed on a watch list by the FDA. AG Hair has proactively removed this ingredient from all of our shampoos and replaced it with a naturally derived ingredient sourced from Rapeseed Oil.

Q: What are sulfates and do AG products contain them?

Sulfates are common cleansing and sudsing agents found in most shampoos, soaps and even toothpastes. AG has sulfate-free and sulfate shampoo options. We use coconut-derived sulfates that are gentle on skin and guaranteed not to strip colour from colour-treated hair.

Yes. All AG shampoos are guaranteed colour-safe and are formulated without adding salt, sodium chloride, as a thickening agent. We use a blend of natural herbal ingredients that soothe and protect hair. Our shampoos contain gentle coconut derived surfactants that are pH balanced and cleanse hair without stripping colour.

Q: Are AG products safe for use after a keratin treatment?

Yes, since AG products are formulated without sodium chloride they are safe to use after a keratin treatment.

Q: Does AG test on animals?

No, none of our products are tested on animals, and in-fact, we are a PETA-approved company. (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

Yes, all AG shampoos and conditioners are designed to be interchangeable to cater to all of your hair needs.

Q. What is the shelf life of AG products?

For peak freshness we recommend using AG products within 24 months.

Q: Are AG products silicone-free?

Silicones are a synthetic ingredient commonly found in hair-care products to coat the cuticle to help provide instant smoothness, slip, shine, and even help protect hair against heat styling and damage. While some hair types benefit from the coating silicones leave on the hair, others may see better results from using a silicone-free formula.
